Friday update. Dec. 18

Let me start off by saying, the transition has been rough. It's been interesting trying to work a full time job and then try to animate during the night. It's hard enough to get started on a fresh new day let alone after the sun sets. Slowly but surly my wheels are Turing and things are working out. This past week I've managed to get my space set up and I finished off a shot. I started a new shot, that's been the slow part, and I ran into some story issues. I feel Like I've figured everything out now, adding some things here and trimming some things there. Overall, it's coming together. It's been a rocky start but things are looking good. :D

The November Update!

It's been a little while since I've posted any progress, but fear not because I have not posted because I've been constantly working! (or at least trying to) Here is the entire extent of my progress thus far.

Frank Update from Evan Tedlock on Vimeo.

With every shot I fully animate, the longer my piece continues to get. With credits and all this version is about 5 min 20 sec long. And here is a new background for an added shot.

That's it! Hopefully I can get at least 3 more shots done before winter break and then it's the long haul of a full time winter job in the day and a full time animating job during the night. :) feedback is much appretiated. Peace

Shot 1 Pencil Test

Here is the pencil test I made today for shot one. This particular shot is highly sound driven so I threw in some scratch sound effects. I'll be adding the real sound when I get a chance to record all of the Foley.

The animation is under way!

Here is the first scene I've animated. It's the second longest and is probably the most complicated, acting wise. GIVE ME FEEDBACK! let me know what you think.

Backgrounds!!

About two weeks ago I finished all of my backgrounds. Here are a few of my favorites! :)
It's pretty obvious that I'm heavily drawing on the UPA style, what with the offset lines and flatness, but also these backgrounds were highly influenced by a current illustrator Christopher Lee.

Frank Animatic

Here is the Animatic I'm currently working from. Any and all feedback is welcome! Have at it.

Frank First Pass Animatic from Evan Tedlock on Vimeo.

Secondary Characters

After I got Frank nailed down I moved onto the supporting characters. There are still some background characters to create but I'll make those up as I animate, just to keep things fresh.

Early Changes

After an intense critique from Nathan Fox I decided to simplify the design a bit. With the help of Sakari Singh and Laura Ambrosiano I settled on this design.

Concept Sketches

Here is a slew of sketches and drawings that led me to Frank's story and character design. Be prepared for a flood of images.

Creating Frank

Hey all, This is a production blog for my Senior thesis film "Frank" I've already got a bunch done so be ready for a flood of posts. Please comment and add any feedback you see fit. Later.
